Don't waste the time!

I had the blessing this morning of having coffee at McD's with a couple people.

Jeff Hancock manages Jiffy Lube and is a fine man and an asset to our community. He has chosen to be involved in local gov't and to make a difference for our community. My hat (the nice one) is off to you for giving of yourself and being an example!

Also there was Alan Leduc. Alan went on a motorcycle trip a few years ago with a friend wherein he traveled from Florida to Alaska on a KLR 650, which is basically a large dirt bike. I forget the name of the ride - it is known in the annals of motorcyclists by a name. It is not allowed to complete this ride on something like a Gold Wing. It must be this other large dirt bike, and my recollection is that they were not allowed to travel on major highways. All was ridden on smaller roads.

He wrote a book on this trip which I purchased a few years ago after a presentation by Alan. It is entitled Passion in the Wind. You might want to look it up.

I tell of these two men because they have chosen not to live ordinary lives. There are so many who never dream, never dare, never go anywhere, never try.

Both Jeff and Alan have chosen to be different. They continue to grow, to dream ahead, to check into new ideas and they refuse to settle into the mundane. Some of you know some of my favorite quotes. One I love and which means a lot to me is Henry David Thoreau:

"The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation."

I added the second sentence because it says something also. So many live lives wherein it seems they do nothing but treat life as if it is something they must endure. There is this attitude that life stinks and they just have to get to the end. And resigning themselves to that results in a desperation, a pervasive anxiety and fear. And a lack of doing....

Life is here. We each have many of the same opportunities. We will miss some (I certainly have!) and we will choose to evade others. Yet there are so many that stare us right in the face and we must grasp them.

I think I will write a book on this.......

Blessings and seize the day!
